The technique is identical for all of Canon's current DSLRs, incoluding the 50D. You can also use a film SLR, although obviously there won't be live view for focusing! You'll have to reply on the viewfinder alone.

Go to "m" mode on the top dial, then turn the knob in front of the dial til it says 1" 2" 5" or even 10" or 30." If you turn it all the way to "bulb", the shutter will stay open as long as you hold the button down. You can take a picture in only starlight in that setting. Just let it sit perfectly still during the exposure. You also gotta look at the iso... turn it up. And the aperture... turn it down.

live view must be enabled through the menu options. Go to menu, and go to the 5 tab from the left (yellow wrench) and it should be the second to the last option on the list just above flash control. Click into the Live view settings and in Live view shoot. change it from disable to enable. When you go shoot a picture, click set button (the middle of the pad) and live view should show.

I'm a beginner and had the e520, I would put it off from list. Its really not convenient if you take pictures in low light of people. It has no auto focus with infrared, so it uses a very annoying flash to focus. I returned it after 2 days. I cant tell you about the other two, but I know I would avoid e520 if Im a beginner.

I bought one couple of months ago . I'm quite satisfied with it . In short lenses it is very good , but when you try to zoom a bit , you start losing a lot of quality . I understand that because of the lack of RAW this would be a factor but as both are very similiar in features and that's what is important to me. hey mike, i've already gotten the canon sx 20 is and it's simply amazing. It has covered all of my needs which are basicaly and excellent macro and a good resolution on panoramic views. i haven't stoped playing with the zoom feature plus the different modes this camera has. Hope this helps a bit or if u can be a bit more specific on your doubts i'll be glad to help you.

Hey, he hasn't answered to me yet and i'm starting to doubt if he will haha anyways i've decided to go for the PowerShot SX20IS. I'm not sure wether it is the right decision or not but as soon as i test it i could let u know. It doesn't have less features than the G10.. the only thing that went lower is the Pixel count which fell to 10MP.. which is better for using high ISO without producing much noise.. also it has much better pixel ratio.. also the flash sync is 4x faster..

I try in store, the most powerful point and shoot out of over 50 camera i try in store. Very fast start up and great picture. I actually more impressive then some of entry level dslr with their lame kit lens picture quality. Only cons is can't shoot video but picture is real nice, no doubt best compact camera out there

You street shoot with a dslr? You should try some of the old film cameras like FM2/FE2 or FM3a. They are smaller than dslr's and the so called "full frame" too. And quiet..... and no shutter lag and MUCH easier focusing due to the ground glass and split prism. And always accurate as it is you that focuses and not the fuzzy logic IC in the camera.

I think part of it depends on your printer. Will it print that large of paper? Software, such as that which came with the camera will also allow you to choose different sizes. If you are going to print a photo that large you probably will want to take photos that are higher in pixels, which means they will take up more memory. If you push the "func. Set" button on the camera it will allow you to choose "normal" "fine" or "superfine." You can at the same time choose "L" to get 12M 4000x3000.
