I don't agree with the T1i. People might have the thought that with the DIGIC4 processor, it makes it similar to the 50D's DIGIC4 processor. No, you're wrong if you think this. It's a totally different DIGIC4 processor that's in the T1i and the 50D. If you're on a budget and looking for a Canon DSLR, I really suggest you not spend the extra hundred or two just for the movie mode. Save it and buy a XSi instead. Whoever does their research, knows what to buy and what not to buy.

Nope, unfortunately it doesn't. That's really one of the only things I don't like about the camera. You have to convert to .avi or something else before using movie maker. You can do it with Quicktime Pro. There are a lot of videos on youtube telling you how to get it for free if you want.

Yeah, I have the same problem with mine. Quicktime pro lets you convert the videos to avi or something else that you can use with movie maker. There are a bunch of videos that explain how you can get it for free

If by "how big" you mean, how much space can be on the memory card, I don't think it matters. Mine is only 512 MB, but I know for sure you can use ones with plenty of space. If you mean actually sizewise, it just takes your standard SD.

Yeah, you can zoom optically in video mode. I do in this video. Max zoom photos aren't as high quality as photos taken at a normal zoom, but I never actually expected them to be. However, I still find them to be pretty good as long as you keep a steady hand--otherwise they may be a little blurry even with the image stabilization.

Hello, I'm trying to learn how to photograph products like shoes and clothing. I use a white background and 4 lamps. The setting that I have been using is "manual". However the pictures I take come out really dark, so the only way I'm able to get a decent photo is by decreasing shutter speed which leaves me sometimes with blurry photos. What setting would be best if working with lights and white background? Thank you!

Im not biased towards Canon or anything, but my grandmother and I were travelling in Italy with our older Canon point and shoot shoot camera, which is about 4 years old. For the second time, the camera got crazy, and kept shutting off after loading. It had already been through a complete lcd failure. Idk, Im glad I didnt miss the great town of Siena when the camera failed, it finally turned back on. Never will I buy another untested Canon product again, im going with Nikon

I would recommend this camera to anyone. The picture is superb, even on the lowest resolution setting. I had to upgrade to IMove '09 as it wouldn't work with any of the earlier versions. It works perfectly with Final Cut Express. I have been using this for about a year now and love it! I have lost footage due to not properly backing up my recordings from time to time, so beware about that. Otherwise, it is near-perfect in every way. I highly recommend it.

Something no1 seems to have noticed is that this is a 5D mk 2 with the battery grip ^^. The 5D mk2 and the 1Ds mk3 have the same specs. I would agree that however, I have heard the 1Ds gets better colors. The 1Ds also is water resistant (note: not water proof). But for those who want a more cheap 1Ds, buy the 5D mk2 with the batter grip, they both have a full frame sensor and 21.1 mpx.

Yeah it's a great camera. I think you underestimated it a bit thou. They based it off a 5D, it's a mid-level DSLR. Good for parties, weddings, portraits.. The entry level stuff is at the 400 500 level price. But for a price range right under 1000 dollars it's right under the big ones. You will be paid to rock this at somebodies event. Anyways, have a great time with it. My next camera will be a 5D (maybe in 5 or 6 years haha)

and btw, i had bought lense adapter, telephoto & wide angle lenses with it. but returned them after a week. it was pointless as it adds bulk to the camera (makes it larger than even small consumer DSLRs!) i dont plan to use G9 for wildlife/nature photography- for that i'll say buy a prosumer DSLR. i think buying adapter and other lenses for it gives a false impression that now we have a prosumer DSLR :-) For me, this is a small travel camera, and it does well on that front!

yes, canon G9 shoots videos in 1024x768. i just returned from spain tour-it was the trial tour for G9- and though im not big of videography, i took some videos of the dancing fountains in barcelona and they are all in 1024x768 format; and fantastic. btw, the still photography that i did was in 12MP- 3000x4000 and i set quality to "fine" mode instead of "super fine" and it was still amazing. what surprised me was how much i can learn about photography on this camera!

it took me about two months to decide between Canon G9 and Panasonic Lumxi TZ5. I went with Canon G9 and i tell you, it is fantastic. it has all the ease of any point and shoot cam PLUS, if you really want to learn about photography, it has all the funactionality of a manual camera. Thats what sealed the deal for me. right now have a basic time lapse clip on my page, will soon post soem pix.

@sine0 All depends on what you want out of a camcorder and how comffortable you are with manual settings. To get the most out of the camera you are going to have to use manual mode which means that this is not a camera to replace a point and shoot camcorder. Also it is a lot more bulky than a dedicated video camera. It does produce nice images but there are trade-offs you have to make for that. If your only criteria is 'How do I make the best looking videos on a budget?' then definitely buy this

That button he mentions when taking photos (to shoot video instantly) is NOT CORRECT. It is the button for LIVE VIEW Photograph Shooting (Stills). You do need to go to Video Mode to do video.. Also 1080p at 30FPS is for NTSC Video capability (US FORMAT) My one shows 1080p for 25FPS for PAL Format (UK AND EUROPE)

i want this, my 450D will find the way to ebay when this comes out in april. was looking for a cheap HD camcorder because I primarily take pictures but want to be able to take videos if necesary. the difference between what IO get for 450D and what I have to pay for 550D is what I would have spent on a camcorder anyway... I appreciate the video, but quite understandably, a photographer's viewpoint, does not fully grasp the video capability. 24fps was not mentioned. Secondly, I would never use 60fps for "smooth" video. I would shoot 60, so I can pull it down to 30 in slow motion, or shoot 50, so I can pull it down to 24.95~ in slow motion. Either way, this camera is amazing! Also, why the quotes of 900 pounds? I thought all the rumers said it was going to sell for $900...not $1405!

Before purchasing the Canon 7D, please do yourself a favor and google "darwin wiggett 7D" and read the detailed review and the follow-up comments. The Canon marketing muppeteers ruined the 7D when they incorporated the input from photo newbies and wannabees, individuals who must still mistakenly believe that high resolution equates to high image quality, when usually just the opposite is true. I am even more unhappy about the 7D, than I am about the flubbed G11, which says a lot.

They're not portraying any particular quality, speed or feature of the camera. It's a bunch of pictures and any one of them could have been taken by the camera being advertised. Regardless, this is one of the most amazing commercials ever made. The music is awesome, it's just plain cool.

The commercial is deceiving because it makes you believe that the pics were taken by rebels but in fact were actually high end !D Mark systems.

Hmmm - the commercial says that photgraphy is a journey, every journey has to be started somewhere. Jouney with photography can be started with Canon 450d/rebel XSI (the same camera, different names)as it can shoot very good photos, It is said at the end.

I totally agree though that you don't need the most expensive equipment to get great results, the greatest photographers of the bast and still today use fully manual film Leicas and they produce fantastic works of art. However, since the XSI is limited to 3 (or 4) FPS, producing the same advertisement would take more manpower and more people and more time which would then increase the budget.

It's still a similar point though, and I'm not knocking the Xsi, its a great camera. A lot of the makeup companies insinuate that you will look beautiful with this makeup, or your hair will look great and use models to exemplify the makeup/hair care products, and if you apply lotion the same way you also take a picture with both cameras the same way, you press the shutter release button. Also Canon never says what camera they used to take said pictures so they never lied.

azndeadman you don't make sense. you're missing the whole point. yes they do use models on lotion chimerical but regardless of how beautiful they are, they still apply the lotion advertised and most of the time use more than one model. I think it's refreshing that not all company's are lying bastards. the camera is actually very capable anyway. you don't always need the most expensive equipment to get great results.

Yes, they advertise lotions, creams, and shampoos with models, same with clothing. They use the nicest things they have to advertise, in the case with cameras, they will use the best cameras they have, in the case of lotions, creams, and clothing they use models. I guess my main point is that it would not be smart to a consumer grade camera to shoot an expensive advertising campaign. You wouldn't use an amateur model to do a clothing advertising campaign.

Isn't that the case with ALL advertising? If you think about it all the photographs on the camera packaging generally shot with the best cameras at there disposal. What about makeup, lotion, and shampoo commercials? Will you really look as beautiful as those models that they use? Probably not. Its advertising and the most bang for your buck.

Well, isn't the idea of this advert to sell their Rebel XSi model? A bit deceiving if they were to shoot the advert with Mk3s and say that the XSi is capable of great photos, yet none of them would be shown.
