I have a question for the person that shot this video. Did you have the Canon 550 set to continuous auto focus, or were you pressing the auto focus button? Focusing on the Canon 550 seems to happen at certain intervals, rather than continuously, which led me to my question. Thanks!

@crimsonavid The guy just test out the camera, A55 lack many manual setting in video mode, sony will release more advance pro A77 next spring if A55/A33 sell well. You can't get everything for that price, sure Canon has full manual setting in video but lack of AF will kill it.

Decent AF. Still needs to see how it handles AF when subject is not centered. But other than that, poor manual controls, low video data rate, less lens selection and better still capabilities, mean I will stay with Canon.

well it's sony afterall. they have better video tech than canon or nikon, so yes, sony wins. who ask canon and nikon to bring video to a dslr in the first place ? they see a future with video, but it backfired them, and newer generation are gonna side sony, so in the long run sony's gonna win.

And with the release of Canon's newest 60D carrying no improvement whatsoever over the older 50D... Canon probably just sealed its tomb!!! images can look blurry in PS at zooms in increments of 3s (33%, 66%). It's because of the way PS interpolates the data of the image. Just change the zoom to either a multiple of 25 or 16 and it will look better.

@kossomemedia I've used this camera before, and I feel that the cinematography style was drastically different on that last episode, and I think that it had a lot to do with the sensitive touch and very shallow DOF with the 5d. Also, the video out is very poor, so maybe that had something to do with it.

@BongSao1979 Sure it is. F stop relates directly to how much depth of field you get. Shoot a person's face 4 feet away from you with a normal lens (full frame, 50mm) at F/1.4 and you get lots of blur in the background. Get it? F-stop is depth of field, as the man said.

@kossomemedia They were only going to use the 5D for the cramped shooting, and due to its handling of low light. After they saw the results they decided to shoot the whole episode, as from a workflow point of view it was easier to deal with 1 source. the 5D has its niche. It's just another tool for them to use, and it is great to see it in action on my favorite show!

Hay dude grate camera isnt it? I got one in Jan (i got the 17-85IS lens kit but i tend to use my 17-40 lens on it and keep the 71-85 on the 400D for light work) To tell the truth i want to throw the thing out the window now. The wired shooting isn't working anymore and the camera wont connect to the computer at all so i kinda need to have faith in my card reader lol. Hope i can find a way to fix it but i don't hold out much hope as i've already taken it out and re-installed it twice to no avail.

again you don't know what you are talking about, i sold the 30d to a struggling photographer friend as i need the extra mp from the 50d as i am now making large prints of my work. the 40d is now my backup camera. your opinion isn't worth anything if you don't have the facts and is uninformed. the real money is spent on glass and the bodies are cheap and replaceable, they are just tools

With canon offering a $200 discount on this camera, it is such a great buy almost in the range of of an 450 Xsi, but with a much superior build and feel. I have used prosumer POS cameras before, but this camera is so easy to learn. The picture quality is great. I have researched a few sites such as DPReview, Camera Labs, and other reviews and this camera, at this point offers best value. If you get one, very likely that you will be happy. I am, only regret is that I did not get it sooner.

@dfabella31 yes. the camera can only zoom using digital zoom which just pixilates the video meaning loss of quality. Optical zoom when using video would have been better. If you want this, you would need to go for an alternative such as the sx210, ixus300, sx130 etc

In fact, if you go to a local store, try the macro on the ixus against the panasonic g1 (double the price) and be pleasantly surprised......

@martin24685 Their is a dedicated night snapshot mode, but all budget compact cameras aren't going to be very good to be honest. I suggest you look at the ixus 300 which has a backlit sensor and F2 lens. The results from that are quite impressive.

the 17-40L and the 16-35L mkII lenses are very similiar in image quality (IQ) across the frame, when using smaller apertures like f/4 or smaller. The 16-35 is one millimeter wider, which is noticable mostly only when compared side to side. The difference between 40mm and 35mm is pretty significant on the long end. However, the reason for the increased price is the ammount of precision glass needed to allow that f/2.8 aperture. It all depends on your needs, the filter size is also a consideration

If you guys didn't know, it's best to put on the film in a dark room to use more film. I still find it odd that when you put in the film, your supposedly to get the film to lay flat on the back. And here it isn't, that part always confuses me. Because I'm scared that I messed up.

@Smile85000 optical stabilisation. However, be careful you do not purchase a camera that has electronic stabilsation. Many companies dont advertise this. The canons do have optical stabilisation. If your looking for extra grip, i suggest buying a bridge camera such as the sx20 but it is quite large. Otherwise, the new powershot s95 has a newer advanced hybrid image stabilisation system

@blueberrybuttons 1.0 sec to start up. Burst mode (continious shooting) should take 0.9 frames per second until the memory card is full. Make sure you use a good brand SD card, which is at least a class 6 speed card. The screens nice and clear in outside use (in scotland) but its always rainy here..so not sure how it performs in sunny conditions

The ixus 130 is technically better than the sd1300/ixus105 so expect even better results with this. Yes, you can activate continious shooting for sports. However, if you want ultra fast (3.7 frames per second) see the ixus 300

@llmax3000ll When in video mode, press the "Func. Set" button (its in the shape of a circle). a menu will appear on the left hand side of the screen. The outer ring outside the "func. set" button is now the navigation wheel. Push the botton of the outer circle to navigate down until you reach the number "1280". push the right hand side of the navigation wheel and then push down to either select 640 or 320. Push "Func. Set" to activate either quality (lower the number, the lower the quality)
