Beautiful camera! Especially with a DOF adapter! I find its manual focusing fine; never had a problem. I also modded it with a DXA-4P so I can plug in pro XLR mics. And it shoots in 24p! Awesome cam! Very happy :)

hmmn, BTW. you hate auto mode? yet this is your first dslr? did you have a creative compact or something or are you just saying what every other dslr user says to make you sound 'good'? i love auto,.. well, program mode, but same as :L its really useful for quick shots where you dont have time to meter set aperture and shutter speed etc, and 9/10, perfect exposure :), so yeah, dont bash auto mode... well not program anyways, bash full auto all you like.

@xlolasupernovaax Thanks! Did you want image quality or convenience of the video capability? If you want image quality, get the XSi because it's better than the T1i. I got the T1i because I'm a beginner and I don't know when I will upgrade to another body. Just in case you you didn't hear about the deal, Canon is having a $200 instant rebate if your buy either the XSi or T1i kit with the 55-250mm IS. The deal is up until the end of Jan 2010 I think. You can double check on the Canon site =]

Canon 7d Audio sync with zoom H4 over long video clips

This is a quick test of the canon 7d with the zoom H4 to find out how much drift you get when recording a long video file while using the zoom for out board audio. I turns out you looks about 7 frames every 10 min which is corrected with a 100.042% clip correction.

I think it might be poor quality control in H4 series. I tested out a friends H4 and the timing over 10 min was 100.02 off. I have an H4N on order. I'll post a video when ever it shows up.

I did the same test with the Canon EOS 7D shooting with 25 fps and the Zoom H4N recording with 48 kHz 24 Bit. Over a 11 minute duration it was in perfect sync, not 1 frame was shifting! Lucky me! :o)

It probably is the zoom, i don't think it has any kind of stranded sync in it. But on a bright note, mine is always exactly 7 frames off at the 10 min mark. So it looses less then a frame a min which is better then 5d, and doesn't make much difference on pitch.

The interchangeable lens feature is kind of worthless cause there is about a 7 times magnification when u use 35mm lenses. I have an xl1 and the only thing that is better about it is controls and build quality than my hfs100. The hv30 is about on par with low light with an xl1. Soon i will have a canon 7d (have u heard of the 5d mark II video feature) that has an s35 sensor that will destroy both of my cams.

this cam is like 16 yrs old why doesn't anyone bother with it. The quality is alright but if you end up spending 500 bucks you can get a canon hv30 (a camera that beats the crap out of the this l2 and the newer xl2). That hv30 even matches newer pro 2k-5k hd cams. Trust me I own the xl1 (which most ppl say beats that old l2 and now I have the hfs100 tapeless avchd with manual gain!)

Your problem could either be in the playback heads or the preamp stages that the PB heads are connected to. It could also be due to the capacitors in the camera going bad, as mentioned in the video here (cap failure being a common problem with the A1 Digi), I have an A1 myself in the same situation. There's a fellow that does specialize in A1/L1 repair (my A1D will be going to him soon for repair), his website is camcorder-repair(dot)com (forgive the plug).

When I first got the camcorder, it was completely dead and when you attempted to connect it to a battery or the AC Adapter, it actually created a burnt smell, which was the leaky electrolyte from the capacitors burning off. 161 capacitors and 2 fuses had to be replaced to bring it back to life again - but it was well worth it, it's an awesome analog camcorder.

good vid, im actually using this feature alot. one thing i noticed in your vid is u placed the flash back onto your camera change those settings to wireless. i have found that this does not need to be done, these settings are setting your flash when its on camera only. Also to clarify. the on camera flash DID fire because he was in ratio mode. if you choose slave only mode, the flash WILL still fire, but not alter the picture at all. great vid i love my 7d im sure you do too :)

Yeah the video camera on the A590 doesn't the best quality and is'nt the smoothest but it is an awesome camera. with great colors I just got one and the picture on it is the clearest. And it has an "IS" [stabilizer(sp?] which keeps the picture still when you have a jittery hand, I would give this camera a 5/5 for a P&S cam.

Are you kidding, this camera can do so much for a P&S! I got one for Christmas and the full manual settings alone are awesome. Canon puts out the very best only. It has the same processor as the big Canon cameras and 4x zoom which has let me take some amazing Moon shots. Who cares about the colors!

Well it's like what they say on Cameralabs: you can't go wrong with it. Just want to warn you a little: I'm not tremendously impressed with it's low-light performance. It's not really bad, but it's not great either. Also, the Ixus 860 could shoot time-lapse video. This one unfortunately doesn't. Those are the two only minuses that I have for this camera. Positive is that you can make great night-shots with the adjustable shutter time (between 1 and 15 seconds). Cheers.

Thanks for your opinion! I checked this site and both models are considered as "best buys" :) FX35 has the HD video mode, but anyway I think that IXUS 870 has better picture quality.

It's kind of hard to tell; I only have the Ixus 870, which I am very pleased with, but the FX35 has some pretty cool features, too. Cameralabs has a review on the Ixus870/sd880; at the end they directly compare it to the FX35. What I like about the Ixus 870 is the combination of good picture quality and great controls and menu structure, which make it very pleasant to handle.

camera seems to do a good job with slow pans, which is normally what people would do. But WHO cares if your going to do a quick pan and then stop onto a subject. It's getting all motion blurred and crap which might add to the effect of movement.

depends. I think you will need two or 3 cameras, esp when shooting 7D's to pull of a pro wedding shoot. If you have enough light, the EX1 and a b camera (could be 7D for low light) probably the best combo

Of course, if you must whip pan, you can always shoot it slowly and speed it up in post by say 300%. You can then add motion blur to taste. It seems idiotic to force the camera to go beyond its limits. Also, use a better fluid head that doesn't jitter as you move it. Pros use pro gear.

the idea was to amplify the jello effect, who on earth would pan that fast, you should give it a shot, 7D video mode, of course it has its limitations compared to the EX1 and HVX200 but beats both when it comes to low light video.

I have a 7D, but seriously, if you're going to be making whip pans of this nature you're not going to us any DSLR. The right tool for the right job. I only bought the 7D because I can change the lens and I needed a new still camera. I love it, but would never use it over my EX1 or HVX200 for creating really usable video. Use a hammer to hit the nail, not a screwdriver.

I'm so glad you posted this footage!!! Ok another question: is this footage slowed down, like, were you whip panning super fast, and then slowed it down quarter or half speed? Because the panning left to right is very slow and in this video and you wouldn't expect this kind of jumpiness.

Im stuck between the 7D and th 5D2, im going to be using it a lot for video, and getting the film look.. from what i have researched, the 7D looks a lot more like film, and if your going to be using it professionally you will be lighting your scenes, and not using fast pans and tilts.

It's funny because this technology will only get better. CCD chips don't suffer through the same rolling shutter as CMOS scanning does. That leads me to believe that if the world of photography will venture into this new world of combined photo/video, then the internal technology has to progress over to CCD chips. My first HD camera was the Sony FX1 which I bought the week it came out. Soon after, HD moved from 1080p to 1080i and I was stuck with a $5,000 camera that was old in under 2 years
