Thanks Canon, once the sensor in my REBEL XT failed, I felt it was time to upgrade, I love the new 50D, although I did have a problem with red dots appearing in my images on the first one, best buy exchanged it without any questions and I am head over heals for this camera. I use it professionally almost on a daily basis.

@paulio2293 You really have no right judging people about their age. That person is probably interested in photography and without knowing the exact situation I don't think you should judge. Anyhow, everybody has their own opinions and I respect that. I've seen several tests indicating that EOS 40D takes much better pictures then the 50D using same lens and ISO setups. The 50D has more noise on the pictures because of the high-resolution - So if you want more features, buy 50D. If you want better pictures, buy the 40D

Canon 40D, well 6.5 frames per second and very nice color processing (nice pictures) besides the 10 megapixels and high ISO. This combined with premium lenses such as the 70-200 F/2.8 makes just incredible pictures. Other than that, well the main idea on what to buy relied on who is shooting, remember that YOU are taking the picture, so all the creativity and quality starts from you. in terms of price the higher you go, the better the quality gets.

@MariluLane Just keep in mind, the 500D is still a SLR, mainly for the pictures, the movie mode is just an extra :) But you should either check out the 500D or 550D, you won't regret it :)

@MariluLane i find it irritating to hear the AF when i watch the videos again, it's ok if you edit it with a music in the background though lol. I am using the 17-85mm USM lens, it's working great even when I MF. Although the lens is a bit heavier then the kit lens, you will need to get used to it and just practice filming with it, specially when zooming and MF at the same time. A tripod would be ofc the best thing for filming although I don't see myself carrying one all the time. :)

Funny how this brings up lower end bodies, I have a 450D (rebel) with L glass and a 1.4... I have outshot a few full frame bodies~ You dont "have to" spend money on bodie to get amazing results. The bodie accomodates the photographer while the glass accomodatees the photo. Although I DO plan to get the 7D VERY soon ;)

BEFORE purchasing this camera, or dreaming about this camera, please do yourself a favor and google darwin wiggett 7d. Read the detailed review and the comments. Sadly, this potentially great camera was ruined by the marketing muppeteers at Canon who elected to cram too many megapixels on the small APS-C sensor, thus compromising the purity of the sensel signal. If the 7D would have launched as a 10mp camera, the 7D would have been incredible. So close, yet so far. Why Canon, why?

Why not profesional? I'm a professional photographer and this camera, as a 50D has all you need for making an excellent job. Don't need to spend 6000 bucks in a MK III Ds. The 7D, has 18MP, which is eough. If you need more resolution, buy a Hasselblad. Don't need 10 fps like a MK III... you have 8....is it not enough?. Even more. In the 7D you have two Digic IV....one Digic III on the Mark III..... Pro line?...Yo can be a pro using a 500D if you are good. Pro Line, thats funny.

I am glad i didnt spring for the 50d, but i wouldnt say they got owned, its the next step up from the 50d, its a semi-pro camera, not a pro camera, the 1d is pro line, this the same line and the 5d, hopefully its all its stacked up to be.

If you are 15, don't worry about bodys right now. Get a cost effective body and start collecting a high quality lens collection. When you get to 20+, you can blow a huge chuck of cash on a fab new body and already have a well stocked collection of lenses. As in when you take photos/videos do you then just transfer onto your computer via the USB cable? or do you use some software? I've taken a few videos so far set on 1280 (so 720P HD) and the quality is definitely not as sharp and fine as some of the videos I've seen on here. Any ideas why? Really selling this camera short. A direct comparison to the Canon 7D (approx $1500) reveals the T2i as having better, smoother, less noisy images. They have the same 18MP sensor size, but their sensors are not exactly the same and surprisingly the 7D produces very noisy and grainy images even at 100 iso, where the T2i really produces much smoother images. This is a great bargain and in absolute terms a wonderful DSLR.

The 50D doesnt have video, its 15mp as opposed to 18 for the 550D. The 550D and 7D have better image quality than the 50D. The 50D is bigger, better built and shoots at 6.3 fps vs 3.4 so it depends what you need the camera for... 50D for speed and durability, 550D for anything else, and video :)

@Nealntm1 Hi, with any lens that doesn't have an infinity setting, I would look through the view finder and try to manually focus as best I can. Even though a lens may not have the infinity symbol on it, the idea remains the same. Since you're using a small aperture setting, you should be fine with the manual focus set to the farthest distance setting possible. As for a flash, check out the Promaster 5250DX at about $80 or a used Canon Speedlite. Thanks for the comment, I hope that helps.

You should have mentioned to your viewers that they won't be able to set their ISO to 100 unless they turn off the Highlight Tone Priority mode. If they leave it enabled the lowest ISO they will achieve is 200. Good video otherwise.

@limitedresources if you're going to use the camera mainly for shooting videos you would be better off buying a video camera.. i've heard the canon vixia hf200 is a nice video camera, and it costs a little less than the t1i too

You can zoom but as your lens changes, your f stop changes. It can make your image darker or brighter while zooming. I don't recommend using it the zoom on video mode. But great camera otherwise!

@CausesSideEffects Hey man, the difference is this: 500D has higher ISO 500D has HD video @ 720p and 1080p, 450D doesn't have video recording 500D is a little quicker as far a continuous shooting 500D has the new Digic 4 Image Processor 500D has like 15.1 megapixels and 450D has a little more the 12, like 12.3 I made the same decision and I went with the T1i because I am planning on making a career of photography.
