if u want my opinion go with the sd1100..ya not the 750 or 1000..the 1100 has image stabilizer n beleive me this feature counts..i have the sd750 n by the way sd750 is newer than the sd1000 with little more features like the touch menu n the 3" screen n of course the great design..believe me spend more for the sd1100 n i think u won't regret it although it doesn't have the great look as 1000n750..don't take my words as the ultimate advice..ask more n if u've already got 750 tell me about it.bye

What is the easiest way to convert the videos from this camera so they will play on a American TV (NTSC) home DVD player? I can watch the videos fine in Windows Media Player, but i'd like to watch them on the TV and copy them for friends & family. Most of the video editing software i've seen requires a time consuming rendering process. All I care about it transferring all of the clips, unedited, as quickly and easily as possible. Thanks

hey, how you doing? i stumbled upon your comment here which is 11 months too late haha but i just bought myself a 50d. Dont you have an advantage with low light situations with a full frame like the 5d mk1? Plus wouldn't the pixels be bigger resulting in low noise photography at high ISOs? I was thinking down the line I will get a 5d (used) and keep my 50d as backup. What do you think?

You qualified the casing as a sturdy one on the 5D, it maybe better than any rebel but it's far from being as sturdy as the old 10D. Don't get me wrong, I really appreciated the upgrade I made from 10D to 5D some 2 1/2 years ago but I also didn't regret keeping the 10D at hand for the 3 times I had to send the 5D for repairs, something I never had to do for the old 10D even if I've beaten the old one more.

The 500d is a fine camera, but the only real gripe is with the kit lens. Especially when shooting scenery, the chromatic aberration is really quite shocking, and I'm not that impressed with the colour rendition, either. Bagged myself the cheapo EF 50mm 1:1.8 fixed lens, for portraits... lovely... but still saving for a decent zoom.

I shoot different things... mostly animals and right now my nephew. It a really easy camera to use. I love using this camera with the EF 50mm 1:1.8 lens so I recommend that you get that lens too if you dont have it yet. This camera is actually my first DSLR and I got used to it quickly...

It is not only about pixel density, if you have the image processing capability to back it up, 18mp on an APS-C sensor is not an issue at all. The T2i uses the same sensor as the 7D and that camera has not had any issues with noise. the main difference between the 2 is that the T2i has only 1 processor, so although it is slower for burst shooting, it still has the roughly the same image processing capability. the extra MP serves more for cropping, which comes in handy for wildlife photography.

Just stay below ISO1600 and it wont be a problem. at maximum ISO any camera will start to show noise. Noise will also become a problem with prolonged use at even moderately high ISO as the sensor becomes hotter. That applies to ANY digital camera. So as a rule, use the lowest ISO you can get away with and buy the fastest lens you can afford for the job. Adobe Lightroom 2.3 or higher has an excellent noise removal tool, the end result will look like it almost never happened.

Yes, canons APS-C bodies, namely the rebels & 20, 30, 40 & 50Ds & the 7D can take both EF & EF-S lenses, but full frame and APS-H bodies like the 5D, 1Ds and the 1D respectively can only take EF lenses. EF-S lenses are designed with a shorter back focus distance, allowing them to be more compact because of the smaller area they need to focus on with the smaller sensors of APS-C cameras. Stick to EF lenses if you plan to go APS-H or full frame eventually.

i have seen many reviews about the video quality but not the still image quality. i am deciding between this camera and the 7D as my first DSLR. picture quality is important to me. Chose canon, it uses .H264 mov, which integrates seamlessly with Adobe Premiere and Apple Final Cut, the Nikon uses motion JPEG avi. And while this would allow you to screw it up in windows movie maker and similarly rubbish grade editing applications, it will require conversion in order to work in proper ones like the above, albeit with poorer results than the canon. As for stills, Canon is much better for concentrative work. (A nikon guy admitted that to me himself)

Since the cameras are still "entry level", the only truly important differences between the two are bodies and lenses. Generally speaking, Canon has cheaper lenses, but you can always go with third-party lenses for cheaper. The body would be the deciding factor for me. It's extremely important that you're comfortable holding your camera. Therefore, I would honestly base your decision on which body you're more comfortable with. Go to a camera store and try holding both bodies.

that is true, but the ZX1 is already being replaced by the Zi8 so price of ZX1 is falling. Zx1 doesn't shoot 12 mp stills and no image stabilization. it's a trade off and everyone has to look at their own needs to see which is best. congrats on the purchase, i'm sure you'll love it.

The ZX1 can shoot in 60 fps though while the sd780 is only capable of 30 fps. Also there's a huge difference in price - Canon is $200+ (I can't find for under $240 if tax and s&h is included). The Zx1? $120+. I got one today from Sears for $89 total w/ tax already included. I could almost get three Zx1's for the price of an Sd780...

Thx for ur previous reply - 've been giving the 18-55 a 2nd/fair shot. ;) Wanted to give you a heads up that canon makes an eyepiece extender to raise the eyepiece away from the back of the camera, which might help with clearance. The Nikon D90 is a very smart, high quality, sturdy device. It is definitely worth the investment. As a cheaper alternative, you may wanna check out the Canon 500D, which also has HD recording capabilities. almost bought the a350 which only real qualities i now realise are a tiltable screen and its internal VR. i picked it up just like u advised and it felt wrong u know, felt bulky and cheap and the tiltable screen was just another thing that could break off in an accident or something. so instead i moved along the aisle and looked at teh nikons, really liked the d60 but fell head over heals for teh d90 LOL, so now im saving for the d90. nikon lenses are so much better in comparison than sony's

The 18-55 lens takes really noisy/blurry pictures. If you've never held a camera before, you'll be happy for about a month. Buy the body only, and test out dif lenses in a camera store to find one that fits your shooting style. After 2000 pix with the 18-55, it's more than apparent I need more higher quality optics. If it's in your budget, get a proper lens. Shop on amazon - huge discounts.

The video is wrong, you must go to the video setting not the video photo setting. Press the functions button. Go to the second thing from the bottom which probably says off but may say LW or SW. When you have that highlited go over to LW or SW and press select. You will know be able to take photo while filming video by pressing the photo button when you are filming.

my brother got this for me about the time that it was released in China and looking at it now, the price is cut in half... Brother got it for 10 000 (EEK) or more (EEK is the currency of Estonia)... it's a nice camera. The videos you can make look good and sound good. The built in mic worked better than i thought it would be :D Lot's of cameras and mp3 players have had the mic but alot of them haven't worked that well

i really enjoy this camera- have written a very long review on amazon for it. but in short it's fantastic for all kind of photography, and i've taken some nice night shots as well. these days i'm only making time lapse videos- posted on my profile :-). my suggestion would be to NOT buy the lense accessories. it only adds to the weight (makes it bigger than a basic dslr!) for wide shots you can use the Tv setting- allows for a wide shot! love this camera!

That's true, but how would you label normal EF lenses which work on all bodies? How about the EF 24-105mm for instance... would you label it 24-105mm for the full-frame owners, or 38-168mm for the cropped-frame owners? I know the mutliplication aspect is annoying, but it's a compromise which keeps them all consistent. If you own a cropped frame body, all you have to know is to multiply everything by 1.6x whether it's an EF-S lens or not.

@Chowdder IS doesn't necessarily add a lot of weight. The 70-200 f/4L IS adds a mere 55 grams over the non-IS lens, including both weathersealing and image stabilization.

I have a new copy of the 15-85 lens, and it does indeed have zoom creep pointed upwards starting at 50mm, but it doesn't fall as much as shown in the video. It falls to right around 28mm, even with a UV filter and hood. No creep pointed downward.

Agree, that's is my major grip with my 24-70, indoor shots are little cumbersome since I had to tweak exposure and iso to get a good shot if the room has only one light source. IS would be a great addition, but I'm concerned about how heavy it would make the lens. Right now it's a little bit heavy for an all day walk around lens, and I would imagine with IS elements, it would make the lens that much heavier.

well i guess its only 1Ds series so its not that fast. dont forget that those fast cameras are made for sports photographers who NEED that fast cameras to not miss THE moment when a football player gets tackled. but i understand your concern, when a friend and i go out for a shooting. i bring my 5D II and he brings his analog Contax MF camera. you can see the different, i make like 50-100shots every time. and he does like 4-5shots i simply delete the shots i dislike and shoot again.

Just hearing him clicking away taking 10 shots in the space of no time "machine gunning" really annoyed me. Its exactly what i dislike about digital photography. Very little thought is given to each photo, film teaches you to be more selective and slow down. Digital can be great but i think using film is a great way to learn what your camera is actually doing and learn to make adjustments manually to get your perfect image

Huh? You got it wrong.. The Ixus 980 has a smaller lcd (2.5 inch) than "it's little sister" the Ixus 870 (3 inch). The lcd on the 980 is smaller due to the presence of the optical viewfinder. In addition, the Ixus 870 has a wide-angle lens, whereas the 980 has more manual controls.
