nice walk through of the camera. i remember when i first started to research dslr cameras. . .lol i was shocked to find out that on almost all of them you actually had to look through the view finder as apposed to the screen (like on compact point and shoots). but after a year with my xsi, it's never been an issue for me. it didn't take long at all to get use to for me.

@TouchMulaGANG yes!!! they do suck.....i brought my broken laptop in the first time and they told me it was the battery charger...I had the insurance so it was free, but i had to wait 2 weeks in the mail to get it...THe BATTERY CHARGER WASNT THE PROBLEM. so i took it back, they said it was the battery. I waited another 2 weeks in the mail to get a new battery and....IT WASNT THE BATTERY. i figured out myself online (a diff. computer lol) that it was my motherboard. Those Dumbasses!

I got this exact Camera yesterday, black and everything, I LOVE IT! The HD video.. Crystal clear pictures. IF your looking for a new digital camera at a reasonable price you have to go with this one. hmmm...ok...that's a downer I actually have only used it indoors. I left it with my family back home when I left town so they could use it. At the time I bought it, I only tried using it indoors. I'm a little annoyed by this though. They advertise this Pure Color LCD whatever, but when you use it, it's unappealing. I'm wondering why barely anyone has brought this up in reviews of the camera. My old casio exilim is from 2006 and it's screen is excellent in comparison. Disappointing...

That's true, but how would you label normal EF lenses which work on all bodies? How about the EF 24-105mm for instance... would you label it 24-105mm for the full-frame owners, or 38-168mm for the cropped-frame owners? I know the mutliplication aspect is annoying, but it's a compromise which keeps them all consistent. If you own a cropped frame body, all you have to know is to multiply everything by 1.6x whether it's an EF-S lens or not.

Gordon, for the EF-S lenses, why do we have to multiply the focal by 1.6? All EF-S lenses only fit on crop frame body. They should have just say 24-136mm instead of 15-85mm. Saves everyone the trouble of multiplying in their head.

@Chowdder IS doesn't necessarily add a lot of weight. The 70-200 f/4L IS adds a mere 55 grams over the non-IS lens, including both weathersealing and image stabilization.

I have a new copy of the 15-85 lens, and it does indeed have zoom creep pointed upwards starting at 50mm, but it doesn't fall as much as shown in the video. It falls to right around 28mm, even with a UV filter and hood. No creep pointed downward.

Agree, that's is my major grip with my 24-70, indoor shots are little cumbersome since I had to tweak exposure and iso to get a good shot if the room has only one light source. IS would be a great addition, but I'm concerned about how heavy it would make the lens. Right now it's a little bit heavy for an all day walk around lens, and I would imagine with IS elements, it would make the lens that much heavier.

@RyanTheTuber yes yes yes in term of image quality, it is the same I think why canon 450d appear to be better due to the LCD monitor! I persaonlly have canon 450d and 40d and lots of L lens and I used lens on both body under same condition, 450d always appear better ! and when I put em in the computer, it remains the same! the reason I use 40d , since it shoot 6.5fps the reason sometime I carry 450d as a Back up and it is so light to carry!

Thats not true,Nikon has a much wider range of lenses, The F-Mount has always been their lens mount since way back and any nikon lens can be mounted with a few exceptions on modern day DSLRs.Canon abandoned their FD mount a long time ago.Nikon lenses are also typically higher performance,usually I only have to go down one stop to get rid of any vignetting or softness.Canon's typically need 2 or 3 for optimal images. Its all just preference, images are about whats in front of the camera not in it

I used a Canon EOS 30 D about eight months after it came out and used it till APril when I bought a Canon EOS 50D. Still is the 30D a nice backup,but I will not easily get rid of the 50D,not even for the 1DS Mark iii. People,rather get your knowledge what the camera can do and push it to the limit it can give great results. What he said is true about if your pocket can only afford the 50D,why should you eat only beans to survive and suffer of hunger pains than learn how to use the camera........

It couldn't take all the pictures obtained over the last two years by the D3. dude! i have seen everything there is on net so far and i dont agree. so far what i have seen is the mkIV goes comfortably to 6400 then starts to get "false" at 12,800 and really bad to shit @ 25,600 and up. i was planning on buying the mkIV (selling my mkIIn but if this is all it can do then i may have to pass. maybe the D3s but i dont want another FF but i do want killer HI ISO performance. overall i think the mkIV looks great but they have grossly overstated their HI ISO's. HYPE!!!

A camera's ISO function increases the sensitivity of your cameras sensor to light.. For well lit scenes such as a bright summers day, you can keep your ISO low to around the 100-200 range as there will be plenty of light to expose the photo correctly. If you're in low light conditions such as indoors or outside at night, then you'd need to increase your ISO to maybe 800 or 1600.

I don't understand what makes the Canon 500d a great camera and the Nikon d5000 just a 'standard stuff', or is this guy strongly biased towards Canon? I think the CA mode is even more useless than the 'rotating' LCD of the d5000. If one doesn't want to know what F-stop is one's gonna buy a point-and-shoot not a DSLR. I think the 500d and the d5000 are equally good cameras and the only difference between them is simply just the name of the brand.

i fel exactly the same although i have owned the d90 which is a very very sweeeeet camera, but i also am a bit stubborn and think with my heart instead of my head but i think im gonna go with the canon, hd recording, 3in screen with 921 pixels, creative auto. lots of same features as the higher end canon dslr's

Yea, I got notified when I went to the shop to check the DSLRs out. That's what my mom is worrying all about now, preferring the 500D. Yet personally I prefer the D5000. I guess I'll just have to wait and see how it goes, the D5000 is said to be out again late this week.

I cant choose between D5000 and EOS 500D. There's quite a price difference for D90 (worth it?). Maybe the price will lower a bit after D3000's out? Initially I wanted Nikon, but it does feel a bit silly to be so stubborn. Also, for D5000, is the "rotating" LCD screen of good use? And the 19 scene modes? Cuz I like how it has the graphic mode, which makes it easier for beginners.

no they dont have to be image stabilised, as long as it can be connected to the camera, its fine. Its better to have IS in mens cos then u see it in the viewfinder, if its in the camera it does mean it will be cheaper in the long run cos u can buy non IS lenses, but then u will not see what the IS is doing through the viewfinder

Part 2: Of course the 50D has a few better features. I.e. more AF points, a solid body and custom auto programs. The same may apply to the Nikon but for me all that mattered is picture quality and if I can save 150 to 250 Dollars and have the same pictures then I don't need 11 instead of 9 AF points or a solid body. The only thing I am going to miss a bit is the custom programs but I guess I can live without them.

@HatroVille, DSLR is no good with a kit lens. Infact you need to buy lenses which cost more than an entry level DSLR body itself in order to get the highest quality

The G10 has more megapixels, but also more noise (worse signal to noise ratio). The megapixels were reduced in the G11, but each pixel (or sensor) is larger, thereby improving performance. I would get the G11. But the only thing I don't like about the G11 is the awkward position that your thumb is in when taking a picture. It's too close to other buttons and you (or someone taking your picture) can easily hit another button by mistake. A serious design flaw in my opinion.

@HatroVille In case that you will be using DSLR only the kit lens, take G11. All manuall settings, muuch smaller, but still good image quality (and you are not looking for the very best image quality, otherwise you should not use only kit lenses). Good luck!

@AngelDrumStar Are you kidding? Canon did the respectable thing by stoping the cramming of megapixels, which made images look worse since the pixels had to be smaller to fit on the same sensor size. The reduction in megapixels HELPED image quality in this case.

dude the 14.7 have nothing on the g11. sure it has a smaller reso but the processor is much better and every pixel is far clearer. the 3" vs 2.8" = wow 0.2" sacrifice for a swivel ! high iso's on the g10 give crappy images. way to noisy etc.. the bad performance by the g10 on high iso's was the main reason canon lowered the reso on the g11 the only thing the g10 has over the g11 is the sound recorder/voice annotations which i dont understand why canon discarded on the new model.

Um, neither this, nor the Red One is anywhere near the level of IMAX quality. This camera is good, but it's not as good as the Red One and 35mm cameras. IMAX 70mm film is and will be for awhile the highest quality moving image on the planet.

Before you go ranting and raving, please get your facts right. Obviously comparing a 4k camera with a 1080p isn't exactly fair. What you're getting with the 5d mkii or the 7d is phenomenal for the pricetag. And 30,000 for a Red setup? Maybe if you were you Nikon glass with the bare minimum. The Red doesn't compete with Imax. True Imax film is around 18k (though we can't do a telecine with that resolution yet). And the Red can be hand held? And the Canon can't? Please don't spread crazy rumors.

nowhere near each other...I have the 5D mark II, and am somehat annoyed that a great lens like my zeiss 17-35 with conourus adaptor shot in natural or very low sharpening mode, needs more sharpening in post. THe hype with digital cameras, even this true 1080P job, is that imagery needs post sharpening....and the sharpening settings on canon look sharpened, not just sharp. However, with that lens, I'm taking the rocky mountaineer rail ride in canada, with the dome windows.-movies HD and superwide

True. But the problem is, with a greycard, you have technical perfect picture's. The magic of a photo is the color's temperature. Not every photo needs to look like an industrial commercial photo without the beautiful colors..
