Yep you are right,In daylight the SX1 IS will be all you will ever need,with fantastic HD video as well,BUT it starts to come apart at the seams when the light dies.However,dont forget even if you go for a Nikon 18-200 Zoom Combo it will still put you way above the $1000.00 Mark!

If you are considering the Sony HX-1 or Canon SX1 IS, you should also consider the Casio EX-F1 because it has a focus ring around the lens, a external mic jack, a hot shoe, a threaded lens for UV filters, and slow motion (if you want a fun bonus). Hard to believe it's from Casio. The problem is the price.

@MESSER8989 It's quite awful. Imagine a million bees swarming the camera. I tried to edit it out and everything, but it honestly just made the audio sound really robotic. Despite that, it's a good camera. I'm getting a new one and hoping it doesn't have the noise issues. I'll post back here to tell you the verdict =]

Hey I just got this camera, and I really love it except for ONE thing... On my old camera, I heavily used the video mode, so I got the sd780 for the HD video. My ONE issue is that when I use the video function I get a LOT of background noise. Is this just me? Did you find a way to get rid of it in editing or something? Please help! =[

Be sure to invest in an L-series lens if you plan on blowing up your images, the stock lenses are not of quality and will show. This is a pretty good 1080p camera as long as you know how to operate focus and zoom on the fly and have a big class 10 memory card. I still don't believe that the House MD season finale was filmed with the 5D which is the ancestor of this camera.

on the Tv mode, is it possible to increase the shutter speed beyond 1/200 sec. when the flash is open? it only allows me to adjust it for a faster speed when the flash is down, and then the image is too dark.

@TheTinkle It actually does take stills while you're filming, but the downside is that it shows it took a still and it pauses the video for a few frames. You can get stills in post, and it probably is better to do it that way, than mess up your video while you're shooting. It saves I think in MP4, and I had no trouble editing it in Premiere Pro CS3. Thanks for looking at my video!

I was going to buy the 500D until someone told me to consider the D5000. I think I'm staying with the Canon though. Does the D5000 have any specific pros against the 500D? I'm have not really gotten into videography yet, though I think if I can, and spend all that gold for once, I'd like to have that option available. The only difference between the hf20 and hf200 is that the hf20 comes with 32gb of storage and you must buy SD card for hf200. I have this camera and a setup similar to the one he discussed. It really does perform as he mentions. I bought mine at Wal Mart for 799.

no its just the same, you don't have to go out a buy and external card and you probably don't need to, thats what the internal is for. It comes with a software to manage to videos and simple editing but to really edit it you need a editor that can handle avchd. Most do now but just make sure when you get it.

nice walk through of the camera. i remember when i first started to research dslr cameras. . .lol i was shocked to find out that on almost all of them you actually had to look through the view finder as apposed to the screen (like on compact point and shoots). but after a year with my xsi, it's never been an issue for me. it didn't take long at all to get use to for me.

Hi there...I've recently bought Sony DSC W380 and I must say that I'm disappointed with the photo quality...it takes very poor quality images.After uploading the images from 4 GB SDHC memory card to the computer I've noticed that in the low light conditions or even when there is enough light pictures? are in a way without sharpness (kind of rough when zooming the photo) and overall quality is very poor.Also when shooting outdoors pictures tend to be to bright...

I'm very disappointed with this Sony model and thinking of returning it. I know it will sound hard to believe but my Canon A510 ( I've taken about 1000 images with it) takes images that look much more decent quality both indoors & outdoors than this Sony model. Even before I bough this model I've been thinking should I to go with Canon again or? Sony this time and as I can see now I've made a mistake buying this Sony camera.

Liked the review Ive just bought the cannon ixus 100is, I have not printed any photos yet but it seems to do the job when viewed on my laptop. I would like to say when counting with your fingers, please be careful which way your two fingers are turned. In your video it is classed as swearing in England. @FUNNNYCATS: After all the research, question answers, and practical review. Today, I finally invested my money into new Canon 500d/T1i. I have got my new camera right here! You were right about rich and more colors. I wanted everything that Nikon D90 is loaded with but then I got all my needs met in Canon T1i.. D90 by Nikon was way too pricy while Canon EOS 500d was able to defeat D90 in features, quality, and price, so I went for Canon 500d and I am very happy with my decision. Thanks!

PLEASE HELP, i bought this camera other day i recieved it by courier but there is no english Manual, just 4 foreign one's. i did get the manual on pdf file on a disc, but thats no good when your out away from pc with camera. has anyone else had this problem, the contents nside show there SHOULD been an english manual included, but i got it on a disc i need to be sitting at a PC to view, no good to me when im not at home, what can i do, or is there just no english booklet manual exists?

@FUNNNYCATS: Well, thank you for the tip. I do agree with you on many levels. Quality of Canon lenses and optical glass has its own reputation and value without a doubt. I will keep everything you said in mind when I go out to shop. I guess Nikons are more about external comfort and Canon is more about quality. Having said that, I wish Canon had an adjustable LCD like Nikon 5000 has, just to tackle glare and other glossy related issues on the LCD. Anyways, once again, thank you for your words!

You would notice it if you were to take a picture from each camera and put it side by side.

I am not a photographer but I just need something nice for quality images. Is there anyone who can tell me if I should get this D5000 or should I just go for Canon Rabel T1i. They both are around the same price and the specifications are almost the same .. I like D5000 but it has 12.3 mexapexel while Canon is much higher in pixel. Canon T1 has 15.1 pixels. Does that make a difference or what? Please let me know if you are a photographer. I like high quality images. I needed it for my new hobby!

@twistedkatana1 ya cuz the the dslr i would think has a bit more to it, recording long hd video was said to dmg the sensor or something in a dslr camera. its really made for pictures, or else y not just get a video camera. plus half the time when u make a video, ur gonna edit before the 5 min mark. and u can just the rec button 2xs fast and rarely miss anything

Not to split hairs... but the D5000 can shoot more than 5 min of video. It is limited to 5 minutes 'Per Clip'. I use mine all the time for this video gig I have every Saturday and I come home with 15 to 20 minutes of video every time.
