The larger sensors in an SLR are more ideal for lower light conditions. But in well-lit conditions, I imagine the G10 might compete quite well. In lower-light conditions, it's really no contest, the SLR will win every time.

i have the 50D over an year now!! and i have just one lens....(18-200mm is) and it's satisfactory..... now i've tried and low light fixed lens 50mm.... and I did't imagined that it could do such amazing quality pictures. Truth be told, I don't think you should buy either camera. Many are expecting the Canon 60D to be released within the coming months. It will probably incorporate a higher resolution sensor and Full HD video plus a few other changes. As for the 17-85mm IS Lens, I would say to stay away. A friend of mine has that lens and I have yet to see any kind of quality come out of that lens. Your best option would be the canon 17-40mm F4L lens which I have a video about. I hope this helped.

NOT OVER PRICED! The Canon EOS 50D is 1200 while the Nikon D300 is 2000! You have to pay an extra 800 for Nikon. Nikon may have a 51- point AF system, and some extra features, but those are actually for semi-professionals or even professionals. Not for advanced amateurs. Plus, Canon has a higher amount of mega pixels. It comes down to this, are you ready to pay an extra 800 for extra features and a 51- point AF system.

@AngelDrumStar Are you kidding? Canon did the respectable thing by stoping the cramming of megapixels, which made images look worse since the pixels had to be smaller to fit on the same sensor size. The reduction in megapixels HELPED image quality in this case.

dude the 14.7 have nothing on the g11. sure it has a smaller reso but the processor is much better and every pixel is far clearer. the 3" vs 2.8" = wow 0.2" sacrifice for a swivel ! high iso's on the g10 give crappy images. way to noisy etc.. the bad performance by the g10 on high iso's was the main reason canon lowered the reso on the g11 the only thing the g10 has over the g11 is the sound recorder/voice annotations which i dont understand why canon discarded on the new model.

i have pro dslr cameras and a 780---the megapixel myth is really starting to show itself in these high mp small sensor cameras,I swear the 7mp elph from 2 years ago had better and richer color --- the smaller pixcells dont gather light aswell as larger ones = iso noise - however this camera is super smart--has a viewfinder--its small and very cool--I sold mine,but I missed it so I bought another one-glad I did ,I love the size--nicest point and shoot ive owned-its cool and fun-I recommend it

If you hold the camera still then the audio is fine. I'd recommend a small tripod if possible. I've found that outdoors it can pick up lots of wind but that's the case for most of these cameras. Some of the test videos on my channel demonstrate the audio quality of the microphone.

I'd recommend the D40 over the D40x and D60, because the less megapixels means that your high ISO photographs will look less noisy (and that's one of the major reasons to buy a DSLR). The D40 has 6 M.P. which allows excellent prints up to 8"x10", and so-so prints for larger sizes. If you really need to print larger than 8"x10" without any loss of image quality, get the D40x or D60... otherwise, get the D40. You'll probably upgrade eventually anyway, so you might as well start with the cheapest

Thats not true,Nikon has a much wider range of lenses, The F-Mount has always been their lens mount since way back and any nikon lens can be mounted with a few exceptions on modern day DSLRs.Canon abandoned their FD mount a long time ago.Nikon lenses are also typically higher performance,usually I only have to go down one stop to get rid of any vignetting or softness.Canon's typically need 2 or 3 for optimal images. Its all just preference, images are about whats in front of the camera not in it

Hey stauff09 - I have a class 10 (Sandisk Extreme 3 - 8 Gb and it works. Did you initialize it? ? Put it in the camera, press Func, scroll down to Menu (looks like a folder), scroll over to the 5th selection that looks like a wrench with two balls, scroll down to initialize and go through process.
