I think this is why people here in the U.S. don't sound anything like someone from England. I don't have proof of this but my guess is they purposely lost their English accents when they came here to this continent. I still think some Canadians sound like they somewhat of an English accent.

I'm a New Zealander and I think there is a quite significant difference between the Australian and New Zealand accents. The "I" sound in the Australian accent sounds more like the "oy" sound and in words like "dance" and "chance" the "a" in them is the short "a" sound whereas in the New Zealand accent we pronounce it like the long "a" sound. I'm sure if you listen carefully to the two different accents you'll notice a difference.

I agree with you, I am speking English with Turkish accent. For speaking like an American or English, I must live with them and use the language more actively. It is about hearing. I took my fundamental English education from my country, not from native speaker, so it is difficult to change it. If I can communicate with another foreign person in English, there is no problem. Thank you a lot!!! I undertand the people do not like your words. They can think that by an excessive care with Shakespeare language. And for the generalizations of the north: it is NOT all city and rude people. A stately venerable sound on this song, or so it seems to me. I am a Northern Canadian (really north!) and am engaged to a lady in Texas. When we have her family over for dinner they all hold hands and say a blessing, just like how Tom describes it in his song. Yes they say 'Y'all' and many other Southern things and I love her for it. On the top 10 search results, I got a hit from a Bostonian, an Arizonian, even Australian (no, not that other "south") Kylie Minogue uses that term. But what bugs me most is a blogger from the New York Daily News who blogs for the YANKEES! (Live blogging, y'all) Really the "true south" is gone with the wind! The "liberal gap" between the other regions is closing. The southern accent is dwindling thanks to mass media as well!

I am a Londoner, and the amount of London accents Sellers identifies and pulls off perfectly is fascinating. If I recall rightly theres 5/6 London accents here, varying between hard cockney and the more posh London accents and lots in-between. "Aboot" is just a very exaggerated way of phonetically explaining how our accents sound like I suppose. It would probably be the same if you told an American they say "dollar" like, "DAHler", they'd probably disagree that they pronounce it like that, but it's the best way to describe how it sounds to an outsider.

@thunderstruck665 it's true that koreans used to prefer japanese cars over korean cars but that was a while back. korean cars have gotten pretty competitive in the market and they've really upped their scale. now that toyotas got their recalls, no one wants one. honda recently had recalls too, though not as bad as toyota, but in any case, the japanese auto market isn't considered competitive anymore. and american cars are a joke, honestly.

That's why if I had $14,000 to spend on a car and my choices were between a brand new Kia or Hyundai and a 2006 Honda Civic with 30,000 miles on it, I would take the Civic without even batting an eyelash.

I'm sorry, I don't care how nicely these cars are dressed up, Korean cars are STILL garbage, plain and simple. All you have to do to see how low quality they are is sit in one. It feels completely hollow like a scooped out watermelon. In Korean neighborhoods where I live NO Koreans drive Korean cars. They all drive Hondas and Toyotas. When Koreans themselves say no thank you to one of their own products, you can take that to the bank!

Now I have nothing against the Hyundai Accent name, just that this car needs a redesign. Back in the mid to late 1990s it was a competent small car with good features at a low price, and it was okay on safety by the standards of the time With Hyundai's latest round of winners (the Sonata's a TOP SAFETY PICK with an excellent Consumer Reports rating) I think the next Accent redesign will bring it back up to being the good, safe car it once was - and more.

This sh-- car doesn't need to be sold. A lot of cars manage GOOD for front, rear, and side protection, and almost all cars can at least get GOOD in front protection. The 2010 Accent gets Acceptable for front (below average by 2010 standards; Good is almost a given), Poor for side (Acceptable is the MINIMUM to be considered "up-to-date"), and Acceptable for rear (okay I guess, but rear crashes cause few deaths). If a small car interests you from Hyundai, I'd go with the all-Good rated Elantra.

I don't know enough about other languages, but from what I do know, it's not so much that English is hard as it is just nonsensical. The letter C, the letter X, silent letters, and the like. That, and the fact that all rules are inconsistent in at least one case. That line's been drilled into my head ever since kindergarten: "There's always an exception to what we're telling you about this rule."

@993247761 My best friend is South African and this is as much as I know: The South African language is actually a mix of many different dialects and languages due to the country's history and former colonization. One of those languages is Dutch, and of course English. So the current South African citizen speaks either Afrikaans which includes many Dutch words, and when they speak English, it does in fact sound like, because it primarily is, a mix of English and Dutch accents.
