@RiverJH95 never get bridge cameras, they are like slr's but don't offer the speed. what kind of camera offers near instant shutter lag? an slr. the xti is rather old, maybe you should get the t1i or the xsi.

Eh, I'm not a big fan of live view. One of the biggest points of a DSLR camera over a point-and-shoot in my opinion is the immersion that the viewfinder gives you. Switching to the LCD screen seems extremely counter-productive for me, and IMO if you need live view you're better off with a P&S.

I'm looking at this camera as my first SLR (I've had really nice Sony Cybershots up until now, and an old Sigma AS300 35mm). The one I'm looking at comes along with a Sigma 18-50mm lens as well. Pricing is around $400. Do you think this would be a good value? Once you are comfortable with ISO, Shutter speed and aperture settings manual would be. Other wise I would use aperture priority. With a average f number (f8-f11) so everyone is in focus. Make sure the shutter speed is less than 1/60th of second for minimal camera shake (unless using a tripod). If it is longer than that higher the ISO a little. Or auto.. Hope that helps you.

For this no flash and you will need a fairly long exposure. If you don't want to use manual mode use P mode. This well set the exposure and aperture for you according to the lighting. If you want more in focus you will have to have a lower fstop number which means higher actual number as they are the opposite, but this will results in longer exposure. You will need a tripod for best results. Hope that helps, Jamie

If you're talking about the icon on the LCD screen that's a little rectangle, that's the shooting mode icon. Press the button to the right of it to cycle between single, continuous and delay / remote. To shoot three (or more)shots in a row just set it to the multiple rectangle, then hold down the shutter button. To get bracketed shots for HDR, go into Menu 2, go to AEB, and set your bracketing. Pretty nice review. I myself am looking into getting this camera for christmas (except I'm gonna op for just the body and get the 50mm f/1.8 instead of the kit lens). And also, megapixels doesn't determine image quality by any means, it just determines how large you can print.

Contains a few inaccuracies. Larger memory card improves your pictures??? How?? Don't need the software? You do if you shoot RAW. More megapixels gives clearer image and compares it to noise? 2 completely different things. It has the autofocus?? No it doesn't - the lens does.

i guess so but its good to have as an option. its not like im gonan use live view all the time. then i might as well get a point and shoot. i enjoy looking through the viewfinde.r one of the coolest things about an SLR and i guess the 12.2 megapizle takes a tiny bit mor power. but my friend has one. and it lasted him for a very long time.

50% more battery life, and live view......you just got it for nothing... if you use live view it just requires 50% more battery , in fact you have the same battery life because live view takes alot of battery

This camera isnt that serious. Pros do not use this camera. A begining "pro" DSLR Is the Canon 5D. If you do happen to change lenses alot, like myself, the sensor cleaning option does come in handy. So, next time you decide to post another bulliten with shit you dont know about, dont do it. =]

Hey Kid, good review but You forgot to mention the crop factor of the XTI (1.6x) so in reality this lense is in reality a 44.8-120mm which is not that wide if you try to shot landscape or group shots, is more like a medium range lense in 35mm Equiv. but for portraits it seems to be a great lense, a few pros use this lense for it !

i think im going to get this lens with my d700 400 bucks and they have alot better reviews compaired to the sigma 24-70 i really want the 24-70 nikon but 1730 is really exspensive the d700 is down to 2350 now plus im getting a 80-200 nikon 2.8 so i think tamron for now is the best bet

28mm is not considered wide angle, esp with that 1.6 crop factor on the xti. 1.6 x 28=44.8mm which is definitely not a wide angle. The kit lens would have more of a wide angle then that lens. 200mm is telephoto, so its obvious its not going to be wide.

This is great information!!....I have a Canon 20D EOS and i have a 70-220mm auto-zoom Pentax mount lens that I used on my old Mamiya 35mm...and have been told by a reputable camera store here in Canada, that an adapter for this lens would cost about $200. I suspect that they just want me to buy one of their lenses!! So thank you for this information, I will endeavor to find an adapter for my old lens, which I love!!!

Bear in mind also a 2x teleconverter will rob you of 2 full stops of light, which means the exposure has to be 4 times as long which can be seriously slow. So in effect the min aperture of f4.5 suddenly becomes something like f8 or f10 or so. A 1.4 x teleconverter is only one stop less light difference which isnt so bad Also the image quality degrades quite noticeably on cheaper teleconverters.

pentax super takumars are top notch for image quality but everyone seems to have cottoned onto this as well so prices on Ebay are going up and up. Bear in mind most of the adaptors have slight differences in flange thickness etc so you cant get infinity focus with some of them.

yeah and like for instance im debating qhether to choose Nikon D40 or the Cannon Rebel XSi, and they are both equaly good its just personal preferancces for how the two run, are setup, settings and difficulty. im getting the Cannon Rebel XSi with the 75-300mm extended lense!

I like D80 for the kit lens it offered,it's kinda useful because it covers the focal length for daily use^^But what bugging me a lot is the lack of VR on the lens and no sensor cleaning.I think the sensor is also the major difference between 450D and D80 too.450D seems to handle noise better than D80 from what I had experimented.The controls are just almost the same,there are hard buttons for each function what we use quite often.These two cameras are not hard to understand,pick what you like^^

Here is the thing. If your an armature and want to become a professional, buy the Nikon. Nikon makes in my opinion much better cameras and much better lenses. I have a D80 d300 and d3, i have also used the xsi and the xti, and I can say with full confidence that Nikon makes a better quality camera. Plus they have the best customer support eva!

well im gonna say no to that even though i love the nikon d40! I do action shooting so i need the fps in the xsi and the megapixels for blowing up pics to a large size for nature photos but the d40 is perfect for a first time slr user or even a pro keeping a spare under the car seat for that perfect shot from the car you see
