People who debate over d3000 and Rebel XS. Its not the camera that makes great photos the the Person behind the Camera. Both are very nice Cameras. But I also want to state that if your choosing between the 2, Both nikon and Canon are on the Top of the Market but if you have People who are willing to share lens with you, take the camera with the same brand as the lens. Its better when you have a more variety of lens for different certain type of pictures. My Parents use Canon. I Do to.

@DavidC959 I'd recommend the Nikon D200 camera. It's more professional, a better build quality and images are about the same. It lacks LiveView and has some other neat features, but the D200 has buttons for each function. You could probably get a used D200 for about $600.

@ZackAlphabet for a start, i did read somewhere that nikon and canon are par up with each other. its mroe of which brand you are accustomed to. also, most professionals i know use canon, but really no difference but i could be wrong; im a beginner too. however, i did hear that canon cams can accept nikon lenses where as nikon dslrs dont accept other lenses by only nikon.

Hi cameralabs.. great help with the review. I'm trying to decide between the 1000D and 550D. Its clear that 550D is the better choice. But being an amateur, i'm hesitant to spend a lot just yet. The Autofocus refuses to work on mine , the square never goes green , and the picture gets very blurry unless you press the * button on the righ top corner . Is the Autofocus on the lens or in the camera ? I hope it `s on the lens , since then i just need to replace the lens . Or i have to send it in for repair since it refuses to focus when press the shutter button down halfway like all other cameras i have had .

@Dylandier It can take video if it's connected to a computer and you have a certain piece of software installed on that computer. You will have to run a microphone on the side though. Not exactly a practical solution, but it can be done. Shoots in HD.

@Lastspixx No. It doesn't have movie mode, but there is an application online that allows you to use called "EOS Camera Movie Record" that allows you to record video to your computer through the camera's live view, but you do have to do this via usb cable, so you'd have to have your computer with you.

@katarinareal ah. Hmm. But CCDs do the job just as nicely; the D60 and D40 are great cameras, you could think about getting one of those. In fact, the D40 allows you to take pictures with flash at higher shutter speeds. the only thing that deters people from it is the 6.1 megapixels (which doesn't really matter much) and the lack of dust removal systems.

@katarinareal I don't (i use a D90), but I have had working experience with it. I'd have to say that it's quite good, but the hand grip is too small for my sausage-like fingers. I would NOT recommend the D3000, and I think the 1000D is sufficient if you don't need video. If you DO need video, I would recommend the Canon 550D.

i was thinking and wondering if u would explain abt the lens in detail, but u didnt. So i have this question, I bought a Rebel XS/1000d and the kit it came along with is EF S 18-55mm. It doesnt have an Image Stabilizer. So here is my question, did the shop owner change the lens? And what i have actually found out later was, the seal pack was removed then he pasted a same DUPLICATE seal pack on top of that REMOVED Seal which eventually looked like it has never been removed or unboxed.

There is no dealbreaker between this and the Rebel XSi/450D. The XSi is a better, no doubt, but is it worth the extra price? I'd say no. This camera is for people who don't know what Highlight Tone or Spot metering are.

I think you understand why you would like a fast writing card for this, or any kind of camera. Try to search for "SDHC extreme" in your favorite online store.

The 450D is the little bit more high-quality than the 1000D. Canon designed the Rebel XS as an entry level DSLR, and the XSi as an entry level for those with too much cash. I'm going with the 450D

well, a new 450d is more expensive than 1000d in EVERY COUNTRY IN THE WORLD even 1000d was released later than 450d and tthose cams are both entry level cameras but (!) people said that 450d is still an expensinve camera for beingers so Canon desinged the 1000d for a lower price without missing esential setings 450s has 12.2mpix, 3inch LCD then 1000d 10.1mpix 2.5inch LCD

i wanted to get a Nikon D60 before.. but i changed my mind and bought the canon EOS 1000D. i read a review somewhere, and it says that canon's picture quality is much better. only great thing about the D60 is that the materials used were solid type, in short The materials are better.. hahahaha. It's true 1000D has very good quality.. I just got mine today. :D and Im lovin it.

Danke! Naja, man muss auch nicht unbedingt nach Rom fliegen um Bilder zu machen. Ne kleine Stadt, ein Wald, eine Wiese oder ne Kirche können da schon reichen. Es geht auch zu nem großen Teil darum was man fotografiert, sondern wir man was fotografiert. Die Bearbeitungen sind oft unterschiedlich, meistens habe ich die Farben einen wenig verändert, eine wenig gecroppt, nachgeschärft...das kannst Du alles mit DPP machen!

Depends on what deal you get! I am very happy with mine. It's built like a truck and weather sealed. Not slow focus like some say, although at night you best go to manual. The kitlens is great for macro, min foc dist 25 cm! Inbody stabilization is nice too. A 2,7 inch screen is quite good even though it lacks live view. So, A quite good AF with 11 points and stabilization will let you shoot action and sports.... it's not useless like some say. but yes, 2,7 fps is not good for continuous action

Like I said, it may just come down to preference. I find cannon and sony usually have the best colors. But because you're so adamant about it I'll take another look at the K200. The continuous shot is rather important to me though - just because it's fun.

I don't own any of the cameras, but I've used them and seen the results. I'm speaking only of kit lenses because I don't have the money for anything else atm. I suppose SDHC is almost as good as Compact Flash though. Still, the K200's quality is noticeably less with the kit lens. (part of which is preference I presume)

Doesn't use compact flash = cheaper SD memory cards. Have you actually used the Rebel or A200? I have, and what you just said there isn't exactly true. Lenses matter a lot more; and in Pentax' current lineup, there are no second-class citizens.

I'm new to this, I'd just like to point out that the K200 is about $100 more, it doesn't use Compact Flash, Continuous shooting is horrid, and the picture quality isn't as good as the Rebel or A200. The AA feature and the AF are appealing though.

Thanks! You should use a manual setting. Set ISO at 800 or 1600 and use the lowest aperture number. Now, you should do some experimentations with the shutter time...

@iJosepheen This lens really isn't that great, unless you have perfect lighting. You can take pictures with this lens at a minimal distance of 28cm. If you still want this kit lens, I strongly suggest you buy the new version WITH Image Stabilizer. This one takes sharper pictures. ;)

You can zoom but as your lens changes, your f stop changes. It can make your image darker or brighter while zooming. I don't recommend using it the zoom on video mode. But great camera otherwise!

@CausesSideEffects Hey man, the difference is this: 500D has higher ISO 500D has HD video @ 720p and 1080p, 450D doesn't have video recording 500D is a little quicker as far a continuous shooting 500D has the new Digic 4 Image Processor 500D has like 15.1 megapixels and 450D has a little more the 12, like 12.3 I made the same decision and I went with the T1i because I am planning on making a career of photography.

@camerongb 5D Mark II has less noise and better quality. 7D is faster, has better AF, less noise than any other APS-C model, better video options (like HD - 60fps). I'd get the 7D, because it's fast and has low amount of noise, when compared to the 50D which I currently own. If you visit my channel, there's a link to my blog where I have the 7D review.
