Hi gordon, i wanted to ask if the image qualities vary various production date of the 5d because i know that there are production model from 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and apparantly from the 2005 model they had inferior lcd and dont have the anti static coating on the sensor. Would you say the image qualities would be lesser in the 2005 models.

@Concon0227 You don't wanna get a cheap dslr. They are an investment. I did that with the Canon XS (it's all I could afford and I needed one.) However, I was still shooting 35mm film alongside which made it very awkward to distinguish between the two. I would save your pennies and buy a full-frame dslr - not a bootomline eos dslr.

@BloodBr0thers He's talking about the Canon 5d. The Canon 5D Mark II (It's successor) is superior to the 7 (full frame and 21.1. megapixels.) So yes you are right, but this video is 4 years old. So a better camera for weddings would be the 5D Mark II even though the 7D is newer.

hey, how you doing? i stumbled upon your comment here which is 11 months too late haha but i just bought myself a 50d. Dont you have an advantage with low light situations with a full frame like the 5d mk1? Plus wouldn't the pixels be bigger resulting in low noise photography at high ISOs? I was thinking down the line I will get a 5d (used) and keep my 50d as backup. What do you think?

If you can afford the 5d mark II, you def should buy that one, since is far superior than the 50d or 5d mark I. If not, I think you should get the 50d, since it's more bang for the buck than the 5dmark I, in my oppinion.

@marquessmi You can't use the camera as it is out of the box. You'll be exposing the internal mirror and CMOS which is not a good idea. You can buy a separate lens that's cheaper as long as it's compatible but will definitely not be the quality of the 24-105mm lens that comes with the camera. If you don't already have a DSLR then your best bet is definitely the 5d Mark II +24-105mm lens kit which costs I believe around $3200. You're only paying about $800 for the lens which is worth twice that.

Coincidently, my other cousin brought his 500d and i had a go with that to. its a great camera as well but does not have that crisp photo finish or the amazing depth of field the mark ii has . :)

There are many of us using this camera for it's video capabilities. AF isn't relevant. Any good operator has his camera on full manuel. i don't know about photographers though. You guys seem to like to give these creative controls over to the camera.

af speed has alot to do with the body thats why olympus has the fastest autofocus with a 2.8-4.0 lens in the world faster than any ''pro'' body camera ever made if you dont belive me look up olympus E3 with 12-60( 24-120=35mm) lens cameralabs has a video on youtube on the E3 and it shows how fast it is on the e3 and the 520 crazy fast check out the IQ at pbase oly dosent fuck around

Note to 5D owners or future owners... Keep your flash cards in sealed hard plastic containers! No not leave them loose in your camera bag because even if the smallest piece of dust gets into 1 of the pin holes, it will break of bend a pin in the camera card slot. It is a severe pain in the rear to fix and is not covered by the warrenty. In my case the pin broke at the front and the connecting back part fell into the camera and shorted on the /DC converter. Had to import a fuse from England. grrr

I think that this sequel to "In the Park" is better than the original - like "Aliens" is better than "Alien". Great cinematography. My complaint is that it doesn't really move the story forward - and the obvious improvisational style of the characters lacks direction. Quite a bit of this video is out of focus which is the trade off of using a DSLR without a remote focus, and careful planning of each scene. Secondly, the SteadiCam operator has likely not balanced the sled properly as the shots are swinging side-to-side too much in many of the scenes, or their inexperience is showing. However, nice try.

An experiment using a vintage Sankor 16mm anamorphic attachment with a very old Albinar 80-200mm f/3.9 lens. 30p slowed and converted to 24p. The anamorphic lens flare and bokeh it produces it quite beautiful. Music performed by John Robertson. Check out my other vids at youtube.com

Thanks. The only way to minimize the vignette is to find the right focal length and get it mounted as straight and well as possible, it was pretty severe in this video because i was just holding the anamorphic lens up with my hands. For a crop frame camera you can probably get away with a 50mm but not with full frame. I am editing a new video right now with my DIY mounting rig and the results so far are good.

3.9 FPS is really slow, especially for a camera that's so expensive. However, the 21 megapixels make up, and it takes videos. A professional Photographer wouldn't choose this over the 1d/1ds Series, they are Professional level cameras, these, while they're close aren't.

This camera is so good that movie studios are now using it for shooting some scenes e.g. "Up in the Air" starring George Clooney used it for their scenes while on the airplane. Indie films are also using it.

Gimme one good reason why I should get rid of my 5D to get this Mark II.. Canon just made a big misstake with building the 5D which is still a perfect cam. There's nothing that will be able to replace it yet. Unless you wanna look cool.

i really want this. i still got my crappy 20d which is a good semi-pro camera. but i hate the tiny screen. its so hard to see if your picture is noisy or a little blurry with the screen size it has. and i havent taken much with it cause i never really took photograpy in until the beginning of summer. but i had my 20d since it came out. and it probably has less than 10k shutter accusations...so looks like im probably not getting this...maybe when mk3 comes out. haha

I wasnt querying why it recorded a certain amount of time :) File and card size is obviously a factor... I was querying why the guy in the video quoted a different length of time to the official specifications on the canon website...

i can do without the HD movie. why have a movie function when people can't shoot great photos aways? have they improved the sync speed of the camera when using strobe packs? syncing only at 125 is not versatile. weird.

buying a video camera with equivalent image quality would be: HVX + 35mm adapter = $4000 + $2000 > so you're looking around $6000 minimum. VS 5D MKII with a prime lens ~$3000 Other advantages = small size. You'll need 10 mins to set up a HD cam with adapter, MKII you just click and shoot even in small space In the right hands you can get videos that would come close to image quality of Red One video camera (which is 7 times more expensive, and no I didnt same SAME quality as Red but CLOSE :)

The 5D Mark II is NOT a "video camera". It's a stills camera that 'can' shoot (seemingly really good quality) video. I don't get why everyone's so hyped over its video capabilities. If what you want is a high-quality video camera, then buy just that.

he didn't reccomend this camera for videographers... probably because there are still some issues about the video that Cannon needs to tweak, I wonder when they will realize the obvious and synergize their videography/photography departments to make a camera to put the others to shame

Take this, we are advancing in the future, why NOT put video? it'll be easier for you guys to take video shots, while still taking pics, you get a picture, and a GOOD decent video together, making it price worthy, would you like carrying a digital camera and a camera? pointless for that, its good, but now so it won't get in the way, you have two things in one, so you can quickly take a picutre, and quickly take video.
