Just a minor correction, Canon 500D's sensor is not bigger than Nikon D90's sensor. Both are APSC sized sensors and infact Canon's APSC sensors are just a little bit smaller than Nikon's. Probably you tried to mean that the Canon 500D has more pixes than the Nikon D90

True. But the problem is, with a greycard, you have technical perfect picture's. The magic of a photo is the color's temperature. Not every photo needs to look like an industrial commercial photo without the beautiful colors..

yup, especially if you find hard seeing through the viewfinder even if you max out the diopter thing... Lv also enables more radical compositions. the dusadvantage however is that Lv eats battery power like a gas-guzzling sportscar. lol better have a back up battery...

you have to get into custom function (C. Fn) to do some setting first. Going to Custom Function (C. Fn) select Function 8 (auto focus) and turn on the mode by choosing one of them 1. is the quick mode which will do the same thing he showed at 3:50. Choosing 2 will do what he showed after 6:30

Someone help please? I'm trying to copy what he does at 3:50 but i'm encountering problems. 1. I dont have the two 'squares' that he has on the live view,only one,why is this? 2. he says to press the AE AF button in the top right of the body, I press the AE button and nothing happens? Why did I get a thumbs down? Hacked firmware updates do void canon warranties. Ya it is just a software replacement but that is the deal with most companies that manufacture something like this. Updating your camera with unofficial firmware does void the warranty. It doesn't hurt the camera at all but canon doesn't want to pay for it if it does.

why? It isnt a firmware replace, just a piece of code that runs from the CF. (and let the cam think that its new firmware). When the camera gives an error, you can remove the CF and the battery, after a while replace the CF and battery and there you go without any change!

If anyones thinking of getting this camera get the more expensive kit with the 17-85 mm lens if you can afford it. A lot of canon dslr owners upgrade to this after a while. You're not going mad - the screen gives you 100% coverage - ie, all of the shot - whereas the viewfinder on the 50D only shows 95% coverage. Only very expensive DSLRs offer 100% coverage through the viewfinder.

72dpi sounds like you are shooting in Jpeg?? you need to change your shooting mode to RAW and on the highest Quality setting.. This will give you a big enough Rez for any printing job... still have issues pls msg me

Every one will tell you that what ever brand they have is the best.. However when it really comes down to it.. its what you feel better with using.. I like canon.. i find them easy to use and well balanced and gr8 colour ourput etc.. but i have plenty of mates who use nikon.. They are also amazing cameras.. So my advice is to go to the shop and play for a good hour with both machines and see what ones feels best in your hand.. Both will give you stunning images..

It's very, very unlikely the 7D isn't meant to be a replacement or anything, in fact, the 7 series is meant to be an inferior model to the 5 series. The only reason the 7D has some features the 5d mk2 doesn't (such as 24p) is simply because it is newer... but Canon is officially planning to release new firmware to enable 24p, 25p & 60p on the 5D Mk II anyway! Hope that helped :)

both, and really both cameras are top notch. When i am looking at buying a new dslr, i only look at nikon and canon, nothing else. Go to a specialty camera store, not best buy or anything like that cause there all kids working there who know nothing, but go to a specialty store and take pictures with both, play around with the interface, and whichever one is more user friendly to "YOU" is the one you should buy. Its all personaly preference you cant go wrong with either of those brands.

no dude, ca is fine... simply put, if u want a dslr u gotta love all of its ups and downs. ca mode reduces inconvenience especially if your novice photographer buddy (who happens to not have a dslr yet) wants to get a feel for a dslr for self assessment. if u are a fan boy, may it be canon, nikon, or some other brand, u gotta trust ur brand. surely they wont put something that will destroy their rep in the long run. ca mode is there for a reason, and i have just given one of them.

If you turn it all the way to "bulb", the shutter will stay open as long as you hold the button down. You can take a picture in only starlight in that setting. Just let it sit perfectly still during the exposure. You also gotta look at the iso... turn it up. And the aperture... turn it down.

live view must be enabled through the menu options. Go to menu, and go to the 5 tab from the left (yellow wrench) and it should be the second to the last option on the list just above flash control. Click into the Live view settings and in Live view shoot. change it from disable to enable. When you go shoot a picture, click set button (the middle of the pad) and live view should show.

I'm a beginner and had the e520, I would put it off from list. Its really not convenient if you take pictures in low light of people. It has no auto focus with infrared, so it uses a very annoying flash to focus. I returned it after 2 days. I cant tell you about the other two, but I know I would avoid e520 if Im a beginner.

It is not only about pixel density, if you have the image processing capability to back it up, 18mp on an APS-C sensor is not an issue at all. The T2i uses the same sensor as the 7D and that camera has not had any issues with noise. the main difference between the 2 is that the T2i has only 1 processor, so although it is slower for burst shooting, it still has the roughly the same image processing capability. the extra MP serves more for cropping, which comes in handy for wildlife photography.

Just stay below ISO1600 and it wont be a problem. at maximum ISO any camera will start to show noise. Noise will also become a problem with prolonged use at even moderately high ISO as the sensor becomes hotter. That applies to ANY digital camera. So as a rule, use the lowest ISO you can get away with and buy the fastest lens you can afford for the job. Adobe Lightroom 2.3 or higher has an excellent noise removal tool, the end result will look like it almost never happened.

Yes, canons APS-C bodies, namely the rebels & 20, 30, 40 & 50Ds & the 7D can take both EF & EF-S lenses, but full frame and APS-H bodies like the 5D, 1Ds and the 1D respectively can only take EF lenses. EF-S lenses are designed with a shorter back focus distance, allowing them to be more compact because of the smaller area they need to focus on with the smaller sensors of APS-C cameras. Stick to EF lenses if you plan to go APS-H or full frame eventually.

Chose canon, it uses .H264 mov, which integrates seamlessly with Adobe Premiere and Apple Final Cut, the Nikon uses motion JPEG avi. And while this would allow you to screw it up in windows movie maker and similarly rubbish grade editing applications, it will require conversion in order to work in proper ones like the above, albeit with poorer results than the canon. As for stills, Canon is much better for concentrative work. (A nikon guy admitted that to me himself)

Since the cameras are still "entry level", the only truly important differences between the two are bodies and lenses. Generally speaking, Canon has cheaper lenses, but you can always go with third-party lenses for cheaper. The body would be the deciding factor for me. It's extremely important that you're comfortable holding your camera. Therefore, I would honestly base your decision on which body you're more comfortable with. You can use any software. The cameras save in either JPEG or RAW. JPEG is a universal photo format, and RAW can be read by photoshop (which is needed if you're using a DSLR anyways, IMO)

Eh, I'm not a big fan of live view. One of the biggest points of a DSLR camera over a point-and-shoot in my opinion is the immersion that the viewfinder gives you. Switching to the LCD screen seems extremely counter-productive for me, and IMO if you need live view you're better off with a P&S.

I use it as a B cam with RED and with a flash recorder and rails matte box etc and carefully graded it cuts in seamlessly. I also use a quarter pro mist filter and soft boxes to combat its weakness in shadow detail and high lights. As long as your not blowing it up to 4 k its great. Just desaturate a bit in post , lower detail and convert to 25f. Yes it doesnt have the build or features , but i enjoy working around it...nce you have it cuts it with the big boys like RED XDCAM , vari cam.

No camera ever took a great picture by itself, technology may make it easier to get sharp focus and good exposure quickly but, great national geographic published pictures were shot on canon f-1's Leica's and Nikon f's. ( all mechanical all manual 35mm' film cameras). a camera is a light tight box that holds a sensor or film at one side and the lense at the other, the magic is between the photog' ears.

The 7D is a better camera then the 50D If you have the money get the 7D but if your on a budget the you should by the 50D and you get a good objective with it and you still save like 300buks then just getting the 7D house, but if you planing to shoot video then get the 7D without hesitateing. Ive been using the 40D for quite a time, and its still pretty awesome, so I dont think its necessary to buy a 50D. if u want to upgrade to it.. If I would name the 50D, I would've named it a 40D Mk2 instead ^^

I am a wildlife photographer too, but not from Sweden, from Colombia. Ive had the Canon EOS 350D/Rebel XT for 2 years with the kit lens, and now I plan to get the Canon EOS 40d with the EF-S 55-250mm lens. thanks for the video! cheers

Im using my 40d for almost a year now and i havent had any problem with this camera even the resolution, i crop my pictures 50% of a time and the pictures are still amazingand i don't think its wise buying 50d, in real life situation you wont even notice who shot who with this two cameras. Very little difference in terms of resolution.
