But what about the sound quality. I have read that the sound of the fz28 is miserable. I need to replace my old Cam (DSC W7), which has a very good microphone, to either an equivalent or better model. Moreover I need a cam where the display can be switched off (for energy saving). So I think the DSC W300 would fulfill my needs. Are there any other suggestions?

buy a panasonic fz28, its much better, believe it, it can record videos in hd quality, and zoom 18x while recording, and its image quality is so great. I know, cos im gonna buy it too, i have a sony now, but it isn't that good.

I just bought mine yesterday (Canadian model). Not that the Canadian model is any different, but in the Canadian packaging we do NOT get an adapter like you got. My charger only plugs into our outlets here. Would've been nice to have an adapter come with it, like yours did. But oh well, c'est la vie. Can't believe it actually takes over 5 hours to fully charge it (according to the manual...and yes, I did read it). :) It's charging right now. Can't wait to try it out.

hmm strange, my guess is probably you prefer those big professional ones that really go into detail and what not, Just my guess that's all but I just got this camera and everything seems to work great. Probably your asking a bit much but if not then I hope you find that good camera your seeking with the money you get back if you sold it. Anyways briantravel is right, try to get it repaired or replace it and see if it's the same thing. Anyways good luck with your search

I purchased the DSC-W300 and for the most part have been very disappointed. The pictures are very grainy in any mode and forget using a aftermarket battery; because they don't work. No way to manually adjust the focal points. What you see, is what you get. I am going to sell it and use the money to buy a good lens for my pro slr.

it is AMAZING i have had no troubles with it its got great features like burst mode and you can edit/rotate pictures from the camera. The battery life is good. In my opinion its better than the 300 cause its git higher zoom and i need zoom 3x is never enough. its not easy to break ive dropped it many many times before and overall its just a great camera. actually, u can, if you haven't already figured it out - i was trying it for the longest time cuz it worked for me once and never again, but i finally figured it out! you have to have "adjustable settings" on your REC mode, and then go to your menu, and you'll have a "color" option for vivid, sepia or B&W.

w290 is better w300 just hase more pixel but doesnt have 5xoptical zoom, it hase smaller screen, and doesn't have optical stabilizator for pictures :) in opinion get 290, or 270 its the same as 290 just smaller screen :)

I have a DSC P92! Battery is bloody horrible :P Picture quality blurs at a single movement. And the screen is like 1 square inch. I've taken some cool pictures with it, don't get me wrong.. but they were blurry cool ones xD

Hah yeah. I've sold this Camera at my Camera department in are Electronics store quite a few times. A great camera for sure. Menu interface doesn't change as much as Canons, Nikon, Exilm, etc.. It's pretty simple. And an easy mode feature makes it super easy for even elderly people to use.

It depends on what type of card your using, it accepts majority of memory cards (for those that it doesn't, you can use an adapter which are dead cheap). Hope that helps.
