Help!!! I just bought a battery grip for my Canon T2i. I have two batteries. One is the Canon OEM Lithium Battery that comes with the camera. And another one is a different brand. The Canon battery has 7.2V and the other one is 7.4V. Do you think these two batteries could come together in the grip? Will it not damage my camera? I asked this because one of amazon customer said he bought a battery that's 7.4V and it's giving him wrong battery life bars in the cameras LCD.

That's no creative, what you made is a very poor so called extension tube also the quality is very poor. Rather get an extension tube from the market not very costly , no loss of optical quallity & more importantly, you don't want your DSLR and ur lens to get some trouble while trying this. Theres a much easier way. I just went to ebay and bought a Macro Extender. It attaches between your camera body mount and your lens. it distances the lens from the body so that you get a really close up shot. It only costs $12 on ebay with free shipping. its worth the money. plus it has 5 parts so you can adjust how close you want your shot to be

@mcdesign2401 He's basically saying you need to keep the shutter open long enough for the ambient light to reach your sensor. Then he says you have to keep the camera still. If you have the shutter open for 2 seconds, all the light that is in front of the camera will reach the sensor. And if you are taking a long picture and the camera get moved at all, that light will reach the sensor differently.

Hi, very helpful tutorials you've got! But do you have any tips of taking good landscape pictures? When I take pictures of the sky together with the landscape, the sky becomes too light (like aqua blue) and the trees too dark. Any tips to how to make the sky bluer and the trees greener? @azskull You always want to have your ISO speed as low as possible, especially when you're doing night photography where image noise can become much more of an issue. Anything below 400 seems to work out fine, unless you like grainy shots (some people do, depending on what you're trying to achieve) in that case, higher ISO speeds will suffice. Remember, faster ISO speed also means you can shoot with faster shutter speeds, so its really up to you to experiment and see what you like.

@applepiewithtoast Hello! The body cant expose if no lens CORRECTLY attached to it. You'll get an "Err: No Lens" message. Before you glue your lens, try it out! Detach the lens and hold it in front of the body, just like on the video but without the plunger. Now try to shoot your camera! Yep, it don't works. But even if it is, youll get a totally blurry/wrong projected/wrong framed image, because you messed up the focal distance. :)

Short video on a complicated subject. If you buy film each film is sensative to differnt color. Light from a florasitant (sp) is green. using indoor film outside make the picture look red. I bracket my shots one stop over one dead on and one stop under. Slides have more and better color than pictures. Squint your eyes befor shooting so you see all around and not just your subject. Photoshop? Guys were screwed!!!!!! Fat and ugly becomes beautiful. Nale becomes female. Careful

Great tutorials, thanks. I also recommend the book "Light Science and Magic", just days after I got it my lighting started improving by leaps and bounds. I love how it doens't just show a bunch of setups. Nope, you have to read and _understand_ the theory it teaches, then you can come up with your own setups based on knowledge about light.

@seka1986 Absolutely you can, but to do what the guys above do and to really get the picture you WANT it takes money. This is my point. I have a Nikon D40 and I take as great of pictures as I can with it, I have a picture or two posted as a background in some of my videos. Having had the D40 for three years now, I'm craving something else. I'd still use my Nikon for some things, but there are pictures I can't take with my D40 and some limitations. Lenses are the most expensive though.

@blacksunway It IS clear who the tutorial is directed. He's just showing what can be done. If your limitations were all that were included, the lesson would be incomplete. You should also know that there are plenty of people who "can afford" and do, in fact, buy expensive equipment so your comment that only pros can afford the equipment is makes no sense. People who have enough money can afford expensive equipment.

@MegaAfroGuy I did not make myself clear. All P'n'S cameras does make DOF. But it is not strong one because the sensor is so small. When compared to (D)LSR cameras where you can have fullsize sensor, you get much stronger DOF so background is almost single color. But still depending aperture, distance and sensor size. Just use tilt/shift lense with big sensor (now we are actually talking about architecture film cameras). Just put f:64 or f:128 and tilt it so DOF goes along the ground.

@SKTPSY No simple answer or overruling why digital SLR is better than film SLR. For normal user, the cost of film, development and so on is such that it can not be used so well. It is time consuming and with time, negatives/dias will suffer. DSLR gives faster the photos for use, allows easier (more in most cases) post-processing and on 2010 most espensive DSLR starts to have same quality as fiml cameras has with normal films. And there is the price. With DSLR you can shoot as much as you want.

@yyyy2999 Reason is that with point-and-shoot cameras you have too small sensor on them to get the same effect with same settings as cameras with bigger sensor. You need to zoom out as much as possible and use smallest aperture to get better effect. The sensor size is reason why cameraphones and point'n'shoot cameras will never get same quality as DSLR's. Same thing apply otherwise. DSLR's can not have same effect as medium size or architecture cameras. All cameras has their power and weakness

@SmokenRocker There is magical number what applyis to every photographer. Only 5% of photos will be successfull. And that means what are your top photos what you can show to anyone. No matter how much you shoot, the 5% applies. But for controlled situations, you can gain more good photos what ain't technically bad, but they just dont have the feel what you want, what are in those 5% photos. I have asked has any photographer succeed to overrule this continuesly and answer is no.

Just for potraits, use 85-100mm (36mm equilavent) (some people preferr 50-56mm (36mm) as what is the size what human eye sees) and focus so close as possible to get the subject as you want. Closer you are and longer focal you use, with small (as possible) f: then shorter the DOF will be. When the subject range grows, then DOF will grow as well, even when using same f:. Example, f:5.6 at 45cm could give you a 8cm DOF. But focus to 15 meters and you have 5 meters DOF.

@MegaAfroGuy It is not possible with any camera and lense. DOF depends from aperture, subject distance and sensor size. With P'n'S cameras you can not get that so well. Even with zoom cameras for 600mm (36mm) focal you get sharper background because the sensor is too small. That is one reason why many preferr cameras with full-size sensors so they can get more easily smaller DOF. Lenses on wide angle you can not get same effect as well than using long focal and same aperture size.

@FirebrandNIRE first put the wheel on the top to the letter A then make the F-stop number as small as possible, focus your lens on what you are taking a picture of either by pushing the shutter button half way or twisting the focus ring and take the picture, you can do it with any camera and lens even a point and shoot

This zoom in and zoom out is not the best way to show photography, in my opinion. You can't see the whole photo and can't concentrate on special parts, because it's moving. And it's a pity you showed the photos at the end so fast, you couldn't see much. I don't know why you did it like that. But it was very interesting to see older photos. And are you sure you've got the right of every single photo to show them in your video?

The trouble with photography is that `Not everyone gets it`. When i do a shoot say at a celebration or wedding, it`s the candid or the impromptu that works for me, Clients & guests expect formal or classical stuff, it`s what they pay for....The real ( not contrived) pictures are often disliked or ignored, passed by as inferior or just plain rubbish. Photography can be an expensive hobby but It really depends on how into it you are. If you love it and you can spare the money, I'd recommend a digibee kit from Alien Bee. Two 400 watt second lights, stands, and two large umbrellas (one shoot-though and one reflective). all for 600 dollars

One thing I've noticed is he never mentions anything about continous lighting. I've got a continous lighting home studio I put together, which seems to simplify a lot of things. A travel pack is basically a large battery. This allows you to use strobes in a place where there may not be an outlet, such as outside in a field. A generator, or power pack, must be plugged into the wall. They are both portable, but with the generator, you have to have it plugged in to work. The travel pack you can take anywhere with or without an outlet.

Just as an addendum, I would definitely avoid the expensive equipment if you're not a full-time, working photographer. If you choose right, the cheaper gear can more than suffice.
