'Standard' isn't the right name for this accent as the range of accents in England is extremely diverse.I think what she's aiming at is an English accent that is not specific to a certain region and is universally intelligible.I went to university with a lot of people who sounded very much like this and they were all from different places in England.This also works as an accent free from the class connotations that Cockney or typical 'toff' accent have.Great job,but not sure what to call this.

@Smeagollum86 some of us do, yes. There are literally dozens of British accents so you can't really say "don't the british say...". A typically working class accent does drop it's 't's and generally cuts words short ("innit" rather than "isn't it") but many Brits sound just like Amy in this video. Her accent has a touch of class to it, it's not quite 'standard' British. in Britain it would be obvious she either went to a good school or had rich parents. or was an actress :p

I think you should try a brummie accent (West Midalands, UK) This is really good and I have to say you are a lot better at accents than me, however like many people have said it is leaning more towards the BBC accent rather than standard English.

@cunningprose you're not mistaken at all. But it appears Amy might be. Because this is not "standard" in any way. A standard implies something to strive for. Believe me, the "BBC newsreader accent" is the source of much contention in the UK - it cannot be considered a "standard" in any way. Google for "Andy Burnham". He's an MP here and you could argue that his accent is as much a standard as a BBC newsreader. Except, the BBC would never employ him.

@devoutlyimmature yes I have seen her famous accents video too. What I found was that hardly any of the accents were nailed on exactly. Most had obvious, stereotypical flaws. Nothing wrong with this but I find the celebration of Amy's "talents" amazing. She is not bad at accents. But she is far from great. Good luck to her though if she can do quite well out of the fame.

amy, you are very right but there are very casual british too. to me the most essentials of the british accent is to pronounce the "a"s such as in "glass" as "ah", as the americans pronounce with a "glares" kind of "a" sound. and the next is to drop the "r" in words such as "butter" and pronounce it like "buttuh", but not to drop it when its followed by a vowel, such as "butter in the fridge", where the "i" in "in" follows the "r". with these 2 essentials in mind practice helps a lot

The only thing I can agree with is that some acting styles rub people the wrong way sometimes. Take Kathy Griffin for instance - I hate her comedy because of her "under the breath add-ons" she does (or did if she quit). Her voice, too - annoying lol. Only a person of great brilliance and insight could take something like toast and butter and create what you did... You know.... in animation and sometimes in movies they use storyboards... You could create a whole film, with no props... just the script like you are doing here, acting out each character and splice it together into a film and sell the idea for the film. Reading a script is boring... but a rough preview -like storyboard would be far more powerful

When I was a teenager, I rescued a tiny black kitten from some boys that were torturing him. This kitten grew to be 20 lb muscled CAT. He was an outdoors cat and he roamed far and wide, so did I, but every time we were both home at the same time and he'd see me, he'd come running to me. He as very affectionate. It ends sadly though. I had to leave for college, and leave him behind with my grandmother. He eventually gave up waiting for me to return and was never seen again.
